The Coming Year

I hope all of you have a wonderful, brilliant, successful 2011.

New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights.  ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

Happy New Year!

This Woman Needs Your Help

Cheryl is such a good person. She has helped save so many animals; those hurt, abandoned, abused, and starving. Please watch the video that she and a friend made of the dogs they discovered living in the woods, and donate a few bucks to help her make sure they are taken care of. Your donation will help her with the vet bills, the food, the spaying and neutering, etc. as she tries to get these dogs ready for adoption. Any small amount is very appreciated. You can donate from here. Paypal, check, money order, credit card, you can donate any way you'd like.

Updates

First Night is nearly finished. I've started on a new shifter book, which I'll get into when First Night is all done. As usual, the story has taken off in directions I hadn't imagined when I started writing it.

If anyone is looking for free photos and clip art, this site has some really great stuff totally free. It's new, so there isn't a whole lot, but the guy who owns it writes that he is getting new stuff up every day.

Be sure to check out the Etopia Press blog Tuesday, when the cover for Strange Familiar will be revealed! My interview is Wednesday.

Covers and WIPs

I received an early draft copy of my cover for Strange Familiar. I love it! As soon as it's finished, I'll post up a picture of it.

I'm working on a new WIP, First Night. I'd planned on it ending at around 30000 words, but I don't think it's going to be ready to end at that word count. So we'll see ;)

Interview and Excerpt of Strange Familiar

Annie From Etopia Press interviewed me, and graciously allowed me to post it here. Also included is the first chapter from Strange Familiar.

***
Annie: What inspired Strange Familiar?

Cassidy: Honestly? I saw a colorful illustration of a cute little blonde witch, broom and all, on someone’s profile on Facebook. That’s all it took. I didn’t know there were going to be demons, or z’s, or really much of anything else until it happened as I was writing. I am SO not a plotter, much as I would like to be. I’d meant to write this story as a light, humorous erotic. The dark parts just jumped in there and demanded I give them equal time.

Annie: So… are you saying you have an evil twin lurking somewhere inside? Should we be concerned? Or are these just characters that don’t like being under your control?

Cassidy: I’d say a little bit of both. And I never have characters that like being under my control! Sometimes they like being under the control of other characters, but that’s a different story. No pun intended. :) I do like pushing buttons. I like pushing myself to the edge of what’s comfortable, then hurling myself over said edge. Sometimes it gets people angry, but for the most part they seem to enjoy going there with me.

Annie: If you had to write your memoir in five words, what would you write?

Cassidy: Don’t bother me, I’m thinking.

Annie: LOL! If you’re not in the mood to write, what gets you there?

Cassidy: Reading interviews of other writers, author workshops, rainy/snowy days,
music, fan mail. :)

Annie: Music’s a pretty common tool for lots of writers. What kind of music do you like to write to? Is it part of your normal routine?

Cassidy: It depends on what I’m writing at that moment. If I’m writing something light and funny, I listen to anything from Gwen Stefani to David Cook to Pink. Just anything that doesn’t feel extremely dark and emotional. When I’m writing on the dark parts of the book, or need to, I listen to anything from Needle to various instrumentals to Spain. For emotional stuff, Kate Havenik, Leslie Nuchow, Emm Gryner, Sarah McLachlan, Staind, Black Lab, Damien Rice, people like that. Music is VERY important to me while I’m writing.

Annie: What’s on your writer mind at this moment?

Cassidy: I’m very thirsty. I need to get up and put the next disc of Six Feet Under in my Xbox.

Annie: What, no thoughts about the next story? What are you working on that we get to see next?

Cassidy: There is always something on my plate! When I first started writing, I’d have three or four works in progress, but I discovered that wasn’t the best thing for me to do. Now I try to concentrate on one book at a time, and when ideas pop in my head, as they often do, I jot them down and force myself to get back to whatever I’m working on.

I’m currently working on a fantasy erotic romance called First Night. It’s nearly finished, thank goodness, because I’ve also written down the basics for an erotic shifter story. I love writing shifters. Now, so far, the heroine in this shifter work isn’t a shifter, but she hunts them. That’s all I’m going to say about that because once I get into it, everything can change. ;)

Besides Strange Familiar, I have two releases coming soon to Loose Id. One is Beyond the Shadows, an erotic romance, and the other is called Asylum. It is the sequel to Sanctuary, which is currently out with Loose Id.

Annie: So… excerpt?

Cassidy: Sure!

Excerpt

Strange Familiar by Cassidy Hunter

“Son of a bitch!” Olivia plopped down in the middle of the alley and yanked off her pointy boot, her big toe throbbing like an abscessed tooth after the hour-long chase through the city. She wiggled her toe and glared after the mangy black cat that had slipped through her clutches and squeezed under the chain-link fence. “Go on then, you one-eared bastard! You weren’t the right one anyway.”

She had exactly twenty-three days left to find her familiar, or her dwindling powers would likely disappear forever. At least that’s what Lily, the witch she called her mentor, had told her. And she had to admit, she was getting weaker than a newborn baby. Her powers, when they worked, were completely uncooperative.

She had to find her familiar, and fast.

“Are you alright, ma’am?”

She looked up at the voice. A man and a woman peered down at her from the mouth of the alley, clutching each other in an endearingly terrified way.

Yay, the big city good people.

“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. Just banged up my toe chasing a deformed monster cat.”

“You uh…lost your cat?”

“Nah, I was going to…rescue it.” She grinned.

They smiled–or rather, pretended to smile–all the while backing stealthily away. “Okay, then. As long as you’re not hurt. Have a…nice day.” They turned and hightailed it out of the alley.

Olivia rolled her eyes and pulled her boot back on, easing it over her blistered toe. Sometimes it was fun to mess with humans, but she was too aggravated to get any enjoyment out of it today.

Damn familiar. Where the hell was it?

“Maybe it’s not a cat, Daddy had told her. “Maybe it’s a bird. Or…a goose.

“Yeah, daddy. Like I’m going to find a stray goose running around downtown.”

Whatever her familiar was, she just needed to find it.

No one else in her family had ever had such a hard time finding their familiars. They looked at her with pity, shaking their heads and whispering behind long-fingered hands until she threatened to kick some major ass.

Which didn’t stop them, but at least now they whispered about her when she wasn’t looking.

Well, to hell with them. She still had time. She stood up and gathered her jacket around her, trying not to put all her weight on her sore toe, then pulled her watch cap low and hobbled out of the alley.

Her apartment was her favorite place in the world. Well, next to the woods. There really was nothing like sitting in a tall old tree, listening to the birds, soaking in nature. But her apartment was as close as she could get to nature in the big city. It was huge and old, and she’d filled her kitchen with potted plants, hung fresh herbs to dry in bunches from the ceiling, and had acquired a comfortable collection of oversized wooden furniture.

And it was hers. She didn’t allow many people into her sanctuary, and she would be a much happier camper if no one ever darkened her doorway.

Therefore, she wasn’t very happy, to put it mildly, when she came around the corner and saw Mama and Desdemona sitting on her steps, waiting for her.

“Yoohooz, Oliveeeeea! Here we are!” Her sister’s voice carried like the cry of a drunken banshee.

“I see that, Des. What are you….” She cleared her throat and forced herself to be a little more diplomatic. “What’s up? Hey, Mama.”

“Hi, baby. How are you, sweetheart?” Her mama stood and pulled her into a tight hug, her face mournfully long. “No luck yet? Poor, poor little thing. Come on in and let me make you a cup of tea.”

Olivia raised her eyebrows. “Uh, I wasn’t really expecting company—”

“Pshaw. Get in here…”

Pshaw?

“…and don’t act like some sort of antisocial deviant.”

She sighed and took out her key, then opened the huge, red door with regret.

“Look at that,” Mama whispered to Des. “She has to use a key to get the door open.”

She stepped inside and pulled off her hat. “Good lord, Mama. I don’t have to use the key. I just have neighbors. What would they say if they saw me hocus-pocusing the frigging door knob?”

“Watch your language, dear.”

Olivia sighed and closed the door behind them. She knew Mama and Des exchanged pitying looks behind her back, but she ignored them and led the way into the kitchen.

“Why are you limping, sweetheart?”

“I got a blister on my toe chasing a cat.”

“Tsk, tsk. You shouldn’t be chasing them, dear. Your father’s right. Your familiar will find you. It’s just being stubborn.”

“Shows what a time she’s going to have when she does findz it.” Des plopped her curvy body down at the big, scarred table and looked expectantly at Olivia through false lashes that looked suspiciously arachnoid.

“What do you have good to eat?”

Olivia sat and pulled off her boot. “I’ll make something. Soup?”

Soup? Yuck. You got any lunchmeatz?”

“You’d rather have lunchmeat than soup? That’s messed up.”

“Now, now, girls, settle down. I’ll make us a proper dinner.”

“Mama, you don’t have to do that.”

“I want to, dear. Sit!”

Olivia sat and tossed her boot on the floor. “Fine. How’s daddy?”

“He’s doing better, honey. That strange human virus just about knocked the life out of him.”

“Mama, he had a cold. We do get sick occasionally, especially at his age.”

Mama turned from the stove, big spoon held frozen in her white hand. “He’s not old, dear.” She shook her head. “Kids. You think anyone over a hundred is old.”

“I have a new boyfriend,” Des interrupted.

Olivia turned to her sister, who sat biting her lip, her cheeks a lovely pink “Yeah? I don’t remember you even breaking up with the last one.”

“His name is Tony. He’s Italianz.” She raised her eyebrow in a way that reminded Olivia of herself. She vowed never to do it again.

“That’s great, Des.”

“Is that all you can say? Don’t you knowz about Italianz? Italian men?” Des winked at her.

“Desdemona, I’m sure your sister knows all about Italian men and their propensity toward passionate lovemaking.” The elder Brew dumped a box of pasta into a pot of boiling water.

“Mama!”

“What, Olivia? Do you think I don’t know about sex?”

Mama!

Mama waved her spatula and glared at her.. “Oh hush. You squeak like a straight-laced old biddy. Loosen up, will you?”

“I cannot believe we’re having this conversation.” Olivia got up and yanked a bottle of water from the fridge.

Des laughed, slapping the table with glee. “You are so funny, Livvy. A funny little birdz. Have you ever even had sex?”

“Shut up, Des.”

Des shrugged, her eyes dancing. “Poor sissy.”

“Dear, do you have any of that sauce left your aunt Nadine made? Now there’s a woman I can’t believe is still single. Men love a woman who can cook.” She shot a meaningful look at Olivia.

“And I like a man who can cook,” Olivia snapped.

A knock sounded at the front door. Olivia jumped, nearly knocking over her water bottle. “What now?”

She padded barefoot to the door and threw it open, eyebrow cocked and ready. The man who stood there–the very gorgeous man who stood there–glared at her like she’d already said something to offend him.

“Olivia Brew?”

“Yeah?” He was a sexy son of a bitch, that was for sure. All dark, steamy eyes and hair a bit too long. Muscles upon muscles beneath an expensive suit jacket…

“Maxwell sent me. He said he couldn’t do anything until I talked to you first.”

Maxwell. She should have guessed. Gorgeous men didn’t come knocking on her door of their own accord.

She threw a nervous look over her shoulder. It wouldn’t do for Mama and Des to see a man in her apartment; they’d be planning the wedding before the poor guy could sit down.

“I have company right now. Could you come back, say, around midnight?”

Midnight?” He looked at her like she’d just grown a second head.

Up went her eyebrow. “You have a curfew?”

“I have a job, Ms. Brew, and I get up at six a.m.” Again with the glare.

She sighed. Humans kept such odd hours. “Okay, how about we meet for dinner tomorrow?”

“That will be fine. Shall we meet here?”

“No,” she whispered. Footsteps were moving rapidly toward them. She had to get rid of him before Des or Mama saw him. “I’ll meet you downtown, at Ophelia’s. That okay with you?”

He looked at her as if she were simple-minded. Damn that Max for not telling her he was sending someone.
“That will be fine.”

She stuck out her hand. “Glad to meet you, Mr…?”

“Oliver. Kane Oliver.” He looked at her hand a moment, then seemed to concede to the demands of good manners and shook it.

Power shot through her body like lightning, short-circuiting her brain, turning her limbs into liquid. Her eyes rolled up and she fell to the floor, her last thought a mixture of joy and horror.

Son of a bitch. I’ve found my familiar.

From The Naughty Reader

I love finding a great new review! This one comes from The Naughty Reader and you can find her here.

Review of SANCTUARY:

This book is SUPER steamy and scores a 5 on the hotness meter.
I had never read a story that involved sex between two men. I was really impressed by what a great job the author did describing the sexual act and the feelings that went with the sex between two great characters.

Here is what I liked about Sanctuary:
I loved Kimberlyn, Logan and Andrew even though at times I was angry at each of them. I think sometimes I have trouble with that whole Alpha pack leader thing. The big dog gets to make all the rules! Sometimes I just don't agree with him and want to kick him in the ass. There is a very magical feel to this story that just added so much depth to the were-animals. The end of the story really shocked me (in a good way) and I can't wait to read the next book. If you like weres and hot, steamy romantic sex then you should definitely read Sanctuary.

One More New Review for Sanctuary

From Romance Junkies reviewer Natalie S.

To read the full review, go here

...Andrew and Logan are partners.  Logan is Pack Alpha, and as such, he and Andrew long for a third to complete their pack.  They have to do something.  Bears want to take it over and that is something that neither shifter desires.  When they see Kimberlyn for the first time, it is more than apparent that she is the one for them – they sense it and if Kimberlyn wasn’t so stubborn, she would know it too.   However, Logan and Andrew relish the idea of convincing this beautiful woman of her importance to them as well as their pack.

Hot. Sex.  Lots and lots of hot sex.  Logan and Andrew are smoking hot all on their own – add in the addition of Kimberlyn and her sexual desires and the words of SANCTUARY smolder across the pages in an enticing and titillating story.  Add in big bad bears and this is a shape shifting book you won’t want to miss!

Lawrence Block on eBooks

This was in Lawrence Block's newsletter, and I couldn't resist posting some paragraphs :)

From the Lawrence Block newsletter:

I’ve been all caught up in the ebook whirl, and I think that’s the right word for it. All of publishing is changing at warp speed, and I’ve stopped declaring that ebooks are the future. Ebooks used to be the future. Now they’re the present. You can embrace this evolution or you can whine about it, but you can’t effectively deny it. It’s what’s happening, and what’s going to continue to happen....

and--

...I have to say I’m fine with it myself. By the end of the year, my entire backlist will be available on all major ebook platforms---Kindle, Apple, Nook, Sony Reader, etc.---and that includes books I would never have dreamed I’d see in print again. All seven Jill Emerson titles, for example. Selected books by Sheldon Lord and Andrew Shaw. And, well, a few honest-to-God surprises. One’s a Romantic Espionage novel in the tradition of Helen MacInnes, with a pen name on it I never used before or since. I read it recently, and you know, it’s not all that bad. It’s set in the west of Ireland in the mid-1960’s, with an American folksinger for a heroine. I have to say I’m pretty happy with it---so why shouldn’t I acknowledge it? And why shouldn’t it be out there where people can read it?

If you’re not an ebook fan, the odds are you haven’t yet tried the new medium. And if your response is that you really like the physical pleasure of sitting down with a book and turning its pages, well, who doesn’t? A fine well-made printed and bound book is a splendid article indeed, and that’s one reason I’m proud to sell them in LB's Bookstore.

But consider this: we were none of us born with a fondness for books. We had to learn to read, and we had to learn to sit down with books and turn their pages. The pleasures of an ebook reader are no less gratifying, and the learning curve’s not that steep. Imagine the joy of being able to load a hundred books into something that weighs less than a trade paperback. Nothing like it when you travel, and pretty impressive even when you stay at home.

And because Strange Familiar is under contract with Etopia Press and won't be too long in coming, I wanted to post the blurb and give you all a little info about it:

Strange Familiar
By Cassidy Hunter
Erotic Paranormal Romance/Romantic Comedy
Novel
Fate finally brings Olivia her Familiar… too bad fate is a bored bitch with a dark sense of humor.
At last, Olivia Brew’s Familiar has found her. Now that the search is over, her weakened powers and strength will be restored, and she can get on with her witchy life. But there’s a problem. Her familiar’s not exactly what she expected. And she just might be falling in love with him.
Kane Oliver’s got problems of his own. He’s not interested in being anyone’s pet, and he’s got secrets so deeply buried even he isn’t aware of them. Though he can’t deny the powerful connection between himself and Olivia, he’s not exactly Familiar material. And there are beings more powerful than either of them who want to keep it that way…

Joyfully Reviewed :)

Here is a snippet of a new review of Sanctuary from Joyfully Reviewed!

Sanctuary is one highly intense and arousing story. These wolves are everything a wolf pack should be. I felt sorry for Kimberlyn when she didn’t have anyone, and thrilled when she discovered a wolf pack that would accept her. And when she discovers she doesn’t have to settle with just one member, but can have both, my heart pumped with excitement. Of course, her lot in life is not easy, but her adventure makes one great read. Ms. Hunter knows how to combine paranormal with the everyday world that will make you wish you could jump right into the story yourself. Great Job!

Still Going...

I thought I'd be finished with Asylum by now, but that isn't the case. To those who've written asking when I will be finished...it won't be much longer. Really.

The words are flowing, but the story just isn't ready to end yet. When it is, I'll be more than ready to let it! ;)

And there may be a third...

Fall semester begins on Monday, so on Mondays and Wednesdays I'll be in class all day. If I write a lot from now until Sunday night, I may even have the book finished over the weekend.

I'll post as soon as I write The End. :)

Keeping Kai

So I can finally post about my news!

Loose Id offered me a contract for Keeping Kai! The contract has been signed and delivered, and edits have already been started. So...

That's my great news :)

I don't remember if I've posted on this site about Keeping Kai; I think I had the information about it on my Jane E. Jones site.

Keeping Kai is an erotic m/f primitive futuristic romance. Soon I'll get up at least a blurb, maybe a short excerpt.

I'm really excited about getting this book released, and very excited to have another book with Loose Id. I'll post more when I have a release date. :)

And for those waiting for Asylum, I'm almost finished writing it, then I'll clean it up a bit and be ready to send it in...

Etopia Press!

Hey everybody, there is a new publisher in town! I'll post again in a few months when Etopia Press has the official site up and on release day. They began taking submissions today, so be sure to check them out.

Shhhhh...

Leontine's Review

Sanctuary is still climbing the best seller list at ARe--you can follow its progress in the previous post, which I update each day--and got another fabulous review!

The lovely Leontine posted her review today, and I've put some snippets from it below. You can visit her wonderful site to read the full review :)

Thanks so much, Leontine!

From Leontine's review:

My review: When I was asked to review SANCTUARY I read the blurb and excerpt, and was intrigued by the wolf pack I met. Little did I know that by closing SANCTUARY I would feel like a girl scout who unexpectedly received a badge for her first F/F encounter and witnessing the beginning of a Ménage a Quatre...

...One of the things that stood out for me most was the realistic animal characteristics fused with the human side to create werewolf personalities who are capable of great passion, both in the negative as in the positive sense of the emotion. Hierarchy is paramount and the Alpha showcases his dominance with both attitude and physical force. I loved how the author vividly described the sensations in wolf form and made it all the more authentic in my eyes.

...I hope there will be more stories planned so I can follow up on the characters and overall storyline because the premise, like the characters, captured my attention for sure!

...Because if there is one other thing that I got a taste of is the powerful desires explored in this story. Sanctuary is an Erotica story with a capital E that contains lots of squirm-in-seat scenes ranging from M/M to F/F, Ménage a Trois and more. There may be a few moments of licentious behavior that made me raise my eyebrows but it fits within their wolf nature. It dared me to step outside what I’m used to and explore new ways of sex play...

More Good Words for Sanctuary

Cathie from Caffey's Reads read Sanctuary and wrote up a wonderful review. I won't post much of it here, so you can go visit her lovely, fun, informative website ;)

Her review begins with:

"I had the joy to review SANCTUARY by Cassidy Hunter, an ebook of erotic romance (shape-shifter, paranormal and menage) from Loose ID. It's available also in kindle on Amazon. This was one passionate, sizzling, arousing adventurous read that I'd so recommend to those who enjoy erotic romance and paranormals!"

And ends with:

"Author Cassidy Hunter has a great start to more stories set in Sanctuary. There's a sequel being written now but I'm not sure of what. I'm hoping that some other heroes mentioned in the book will also have their stories. Plus we'll get to visit with Kimberlyn, Logan and Andrew again! SANCTUARY is a gripping story from page one until the end, ongoing adventurous that will leave you wanting to read in one sitting. I'm over joyed with reviewing this book for this author and so can't recommend it more!"

Please visit her website to read the entire review.

Thank you so much, Cathie!

Review from The Romance Studio

Google found me this new 4.5 heart review of Sanctuary from The Romance Studio's reviewer Shannon. Thank you for the wonderful review, Shannon!

Leaving Los Angeles for Wolf's Grove is hopefully the first step towards Kimberlyn finding a place where she can let her true needs run free -- even if she is confused about exactly what they are. She longs to find a place of acceptance. Being a Were living among normal humans, she has had to hold tight on the reigns, afraid to let the wolf within her run free. Kim knows she needs lovers who can satisfy her desires for rough sex and submission. What she doesn't know is that with her ability as a Healer of her kind that she is incredibly valuable to any pack that can claim her as theirs.

Pack alpha Logan and his partner Andrew desperately need a third to strengthen their power and therefore their pack, protecting them form the Bears who want to take over their home. Both men know with one look that Kimberlyn is their girl but convincing her is going to be the problem. They are just going to have to fulfill every one of her deepest, darkest sexual desires to prove to her they are destined to be her mates. But time is running out and the Bears are out to get their hands on Kimberly and destroy the Wolves.

Ms. Hunter has created a well-crafted story that transports the reader into a world of sensual desires that comes on hot and heavy, holding the reader hostage to the vividly descriptive action that unfolds page by page. With Sanctuary, the author does an excellent job of drawing out every scene, creating passion that sizzles and danger that crackles as Logan, Andrew and Kimberly battle adversity, dominance and each other in their bid to save the pack and their bond.

Populated by strong-willed characters that jump off the pages and demand the reader's attention right from the very first page, this is a story destined for everyone's keeper shelf. Logan, Andrew and Kimberlyn are well-developed, dynamic and endearing characters whose explosive and impassioned connection is powerfully sensual. Kimberlyn is a courageous and brave heroine whose personality will appeal to the wild side that lurks within us all. The sex is dark, carnal and animalistic and should come with a warning label that reads, "Purely smoking hot with plenty of sexual wow!"

The climactic battle between the Wolves and Bears will have the reader on the edge of their seats as the tension heats and deadly battle takes its bounty. With the pulse pounding ending the author superbly sets the stage teasing the reader's imagination for the next chapter in this mesmerizing tale.

Update

I'm not finished with Asylum, but I'm scooting right along. I'm happy with the direction in which the book is going, but not so happy with the limited amount of time I have to take it there.

With five classes this summer semester--I've gone back to college--and the regular every day stuff, there's not enough time to do as much writing as I'd like. Still, I'm writing. Just not quickly.

Sanctuary has a couple more reviews coming up, and I'll post those as soon as the reviewers finish writing them.

I've already got a tentative third book for the series in mind, but we'll see. I'm not sure I'll do a third, but if I do I'm thinking of calling it 'Serenity'. That sounds like a great ending book...

New Review!

Here is another killer review for Sanctuary from Cecile at www.alliwantandmore.blogspot.com.

Thank you so much for the awesome review, Cecile!

"OH.MY.FREAKING.AWESOME.YUMMY!!!
This book is the shit. Omg... I started this book at night... and my eyes took me to slumber land... I was so desperate to know what happen and finish this book, I risked reading it at work!!! Sssshhhh, don't say that so loud. I do not need my boss to find out that I was reading at work, lol. Yes, you read right... I read it at work! I had to... OMG... if you only would know... I had to finish this book.

I have to say that Ms. Hunter rocked my world of paranormal. I never saw some of her curve balls coming. And let me say that when they came... omg... hold on your panties ladies (or men)!
This is a fantastic story of the paranormal world of the werewolves of Sanctuary..."

And she wrote--

"This story is not short on anything - I will start with the basic, alpha males (yes sex on a stick men and notice I said men... more than one), one brave as woman (Kimberlyn), a couple of sick as people (the villains), action to keep you entertained, some freaking hot sex that will make you sweat and a storyline that will leave you dying for more!!!! Ms. Cassidy's writing is done so well in the paranormal world that she created that there was no lost moments or times when I had to go back a few pages to understand what she was talking about. Her characters are strong and determined to make it - one way or the other. But when they come together.... oh my gosh!!!..."

And--

"In this story, there are many obstacles to over come, many adversities to see through, the test of loyalty, and some kick ass action. Ms. Cassidy has done a fan-flipping-tastic job at weaving me into the world of Sanctuary. Kimberlyn just wants her freedom, did she sign up for female leader of the pack, did she announce to the world that she wanted to be a bargaining chip in a war that is waging in the wolves' own backyard? But when she meets this group, she cannot deny that her heart and soul are starting to overrule her logic in thinking this through. She feels the attraction to the men in this pack. But remember sex is her drug. And where there is a weakness... there is a villain to exploit that weakness..."

New Review from Whipped Cream Reviews!

By reviewer Peppermint:

What woman doesn't dream of finding a man that can handle her in the bedroom? This is even more important for werewolf Kimberlyn. All her life she has looked for a place to fit in and hopefully find a man who can tame the wild beast within her. So when she moves to a rural area in Kentucky she's thrilled to not only find one man who is up for the task but two.

The entire character lineup was likable in this story, especially the three main characters. I would have to say although I am usually a sucker for an alpha male so instinctively I thought Logan would have been my favorite. However I kept finding myself swaying in Andrew’s direction. Although he was not the alpha of the pack you could tell he definitely was a leader in many ways. And where Logan sometimes ruled with an iron fist, Andrew used his power of persuasion more often. Also I feel like he handled high stress situations even better than Logan seemed to. This in no way means that I disliked Logan, I just found it interesting. A secondary character I also really liked was Elijah. I especially enjoyed the way he and Kimberlyn bantered back and forth. I hope to see much more of all of these characters in the future.

The one thing I found unique about this plot was that the wolves had an ongoing battle/war with the Bears. I've seen many stories concerning wolves vs. wolves but haven't really see different species of were’s battling, although it makes sense since both are extremely territorial. Because of this I really enjoyed this conflict within the story. This conflict also contributed to numerous other problems within the separate groups so it definitely added more depth to the storyline.

The relationship did leave me with a few questions. Like why Logan seemed to be so harsh toward Andrew and Kimberlyn at certain moments when they where only doing what they felt was right. I also did not understand the way Andrew and Logan interacted in the bedroom. I mean Logan was the extreme alpha in public but Andrew came off a little more domineering in private.

This story was definitely spicy. I mean it had every type of sexual partner match up you can think of m/m, f/f, and f/m/m/m ... it really had it all. For someone like me who can really go for about anything sexually in stories, it made it a very interesting read. This is only the first installment of a series so it will definitely be interesting to see what happens next.

Award and a Contest ;)

I've just been nominated by Fiona Vance for Lesa's creative blogger award, otherwise known as the Bald Faced Liar award. Yes. Well then.

Soooooo, seeing as how I've been nominated, I must now choose seven other writers for this lovely liar awa--I mean, lovely creative writer award. Then, I post seven statements; one truth and six lies, or six lies and one truth. At least I think that's what I'm supposed to do. I've already been way too confused today.

Here we go. Just choose the one lie and the six truths, or the one truth and the six lies. Or...just shake your head and look away, baby. Look away.

The seven lucky writers I nominate are: (drum roll please)

Danielle Ferries

Kiki Howell

Antonia Pearce

Daisy Dexter Dobbs

Pamela Turner

Jacquie Rogers

Rachel Jameson

And now, the six lies and one truth. Or the six truths and one lie. Or...nah, that's it;) So go on, guess!

I've also decided to randomly select one commenter to receive a free copy of Sanctuary! Because this has become a contest of sorts, I'll leave this open for a week before choosing a winner. On Thursday the 20th, check back to see if your name was selected. And even if you've already read Sanctuary, comment anyway. It's good for you. ;) Good luck!

And NOW, really, truly this time: the six lies and one truth, or the one lie and six truths. How many licks does it take...

1. I once swallowed an entire boiled egg on a dare.

2. Ellen DeGeneres once told me, personally, to get up and dance. Over the phone.

3. I was so eager to come into this world that my mother never made it to the hospital. I was born at home.

4. I am obsessed with bags. Handbags, shoulder bags, sling bags, shopping bags...you name it. If it's a bag, I want it.

5. My nickname as a child was Stewart. Don't ask.

6. I'm allergic to coconuts.

7. I collect rocks.

New Review from NOR

Sanctuary was given a 5 STAR review by Night Owl Romance reviewer Diana Coyle! Posted below is a snippet of the review. To read the full review, click here.

...I think the perfect word I could pick to describe this storyline is, “Fantastic!” Ms. Hunter tells a story that will fascinate any reader who picks up her book. In the process, she leaves them sitting on the edge of their seats in eager anticipation of the confrontations that happen throughout the story between Kimberlyn and the wolf pack.

I loved that Kimberlyn possessed special healing abilities which made her stick out from the majority of wolves she’s encountered. I don’t want to forget to mention the two gorgeous men that I fell in love with, Logan and Andrew, who also were wolves that Kimberlyn got to know.

They desperately wanted her in their lives and hoped that she’d be willing to share the special relationship they had with each other. I thought they were perfect for each other. Ms. Hunter knows how to pen a steamy paranormal story that any reader can enjoy.

I highly recommend this story and eagerly look forward to reading the sequel in the near future. I promise that you won’t want to put this book down until you finish it. Well done, Ms. Hunter!

Fabulous Review of Sanctuary

From Authors By Authors owner Kiki Howell:

**

I am so excited to get to review this story. I love this author who also writes under the name of Jane E. Jones.

So, let me begin at the beginning, because this has to be one of the best opening lines ever,

Kimberlyn’s guilt warred with her pleasure. It was difficult to be good when the need grew inside her like a sharp-edged mountain, until her fight was as ineffectual as a fist against an oak tree.

Need I say anything about her gift for description? Also, Ms. Hunter has this ability to glide flawlessly from hot, sizzling sex scenes to description that reads like poetry and back again.

And, if you want fantasy, well imagine yourself a female werewolf tied down and ravished by three men at once in the woods under the moon… And, again I am still just in the opening paragraphs here!

But, Ms. Hunter continues on. The imagery, the scorching sex scenes, the plot building, multiple conflicts…and ahhh…I had that war going on to rush to find out what happens and to take it slow to appreciate all of the details that get you there.

With every bit of passion, every moment of happiness the reader gets, it then gets swept up in the rising conflict until your eyes are reading furiously, your heart beating as if you too can feel the emotions of the wolves, as if as the reader I was linked to them – it is a magical reading experience.

The created intricacies of the pack are nothing short of genius in lending themselves to the storyline, the conflict, the emotions and eventually the resolution. And, for the ending…well, you will just have to read it to see. This book is an experience not to be missed.

News

I just got the news that Sanctuary is the number one bestseller at Loose Id!

Sanctuary Review

From Danielle Ferries, whose site you can visit here:

Sanctuary, an erotic paranormal, is a dark tale of discovery and lust. Jane (Cassidy) has a talent for pulling the reader in and keeping them gripped firmly in rich and layered stories of strong and intriguing characters. One of the first of Jane’s stories I read was Beauty’s Beast, a different spin on a classic tale, and I remember being unable to put it down as well.

So if you like a good spicy, adventure packed read, head on over to Loose ID and get yourself a copy. I thoroughly recommend this one. And best of all, there is a sequel coming.

In an email from someone who read Sanctuary:

Back in the Saddle

I'm finishing up rewrites and edits for Sanctuary, and we're still on track for an April release. I've let Strange Familiar slide a bit while I'm readying Sanctuary, but am going to start back on it today. I'm looking forward to getting some new stuff out there.

It's raining hard outside, and we're supposed to be hit with a ton of snow this evening, so what better time to write? Off I go...
